It’s very early on Monday morning when a mysterious character gets off the tube at Turnpike Lane in North London. As he surfaces at the top of the escalator and exits through the barrier, like any normal person going to work early, our character is alert as he hits the pavement just outside the station.  He looks around cautiously before heading off swiftly and calmly to commit a crime… He has carefully selected this precise location, and has meticulously planned this moment, timing himself and rehearsing his every move.  This is no petty criminal, this is a clever professional at work… But here’s the twist – By carrying out this crime he has just created another piece of art that will be seen by millions around the world!

It may sound like something out of a book, but we reckon that’s probably close to what happened when Banksy made a welcome visit to Wood Green N22 this week.

As you can see from the photo, Banksy has certainly left his trademark – in the form of a stenciled piece of street art… his style is instantly recognisable by millions, which by default has instantly made this part of Wood Green very fashionable indeed.

The ‘jubilee linked’ creation is on the side wall of the ‘Poundland shop’ in Whymark Avenue N22. If you haven’t seen it yet it’s definitely worth a look, and it’s already drawing quite a crowd.

It was nice to see an old lady hunched over the latest Banksy image, studying it intently, alongside a group of art students armed with iPhones and ‘point and shoot’ cameras… A number of photographers turned up and this was all in the space of five minutes.  I took the image you see here and I shot off to value my next house a few streets away in Harringay N8.

Had this been created on the side of a house, I estimate that it could have increased the value by around £100,000 – A property being worth what someone is prepared to pay and all that!

I happen to think it’s a great image, but I also know that there are people who see it as vandalism.  Art or Vandalism?  It only takes 60 seconds to cast your vote below.
